‘Diplom’ Examinations Regulations

a) Students taking exams  (language exams, ‘Diplom’ intermediate exams, ‘Diplom’ main exams) should complete them in accordance with the examination regulations laid out in the ‘Studien- und Prüfungsordnung’.

b) Admittance to examinations is dependent on meeting the regulations stated  in the ‘Diplom-Prüfungsordnung’.

‘Diplom-Vorprüfung’ - Intermediate Examinations

A written request to be entered for the intermediate examination should reach the Faculty Rector by the 15th of May/November at the latest. The following documents should be presented at the same time:

  1. proof that the candidate has completed all entry requirements as stated in § 8 of the ‘Zulassungsvoraussetzungen’ (admission requirements);
  2. record of study;
  3. certificate of participation in a philosophy seminar and in either a Church history/patrology seminar or in a ‘Einleitungswissenschaften’ (introduction to New/Old Testament study) seminar in accordance with § 8.3;
  4. a declaration by the candidate stating whether he/she has ever failed intermediate examinations in Catholic theology at another institution of higher education or has sat an examination of which he/she has not yet received results.

‘Diplom’ Examinations

A written request to be entered for the first part of the ‘Diplom’ examination should reach the Faculty Rector by the 15th of May/November at the latest. The following documents should be presented at the same time:

  1. proof that the candidate has completed all entry requirements as stated in § 17.1 of the ‘Zulassungsvoraussetzungen’ (admission requirements);
  2. record of study;
  3. a declaration by the candidate as to whether he/she has ever applied to sit final examinations in Catholic theology at another institution of higher education;
  4. a declaration by the candidate stating which subject he/she is majoring in (with an extended examination) if this subject is one of those mentioned in § 16 and the candidate wants to take this examination earlier than is usual.     

A written request to be entered for the final examination (second part of the ‘Diplom’ examination) should reach the Faculty Rector by the 15th of May/November at the latest. The following documents should be presented at the same time:

  1. proof that the candidate has completed all entry requirements as stated in § 17.2 of the ‘Zulassungsvoraussetzungen’ (admission requirements);
  2. record of study;
  3. a certificate of participation in one seminar from each subject group  listed in § 19.1, subsection 2, plus one in a subject of their choosing as per § 17.2, subsection 3;
  4. a declaration by the candidate as to which subject of their major they wish to sit an examination in;
  5. a declaration by the candidate as to whether he/she has ever failed intermediate examinations in Catholic theology at another institution of higher education or has sat an examination of which he/she has not yet received results;
  6. if applicable, a request for recognition of academic work completed for another course or institution (cf. § 5); requests relating to the current semester’s work (language courses, regular lectures, exercises and courses) and to the ‘Studien- u. Prüfungsordnung’ should be handed in in writing to the Rector’s Office or the Faculty Office within 14 days of the beginning of the semester.
